Route 9 has had a facelift, streets in many communities are getting a new look and pot holes are disappearing.
But there is one glaring oversight in all of this work.
Augusta is the capital city of Maine, and two streets that are virtual entryways have been neglected.
Route 9's construction seems to end suddenly with a small length of road coming into Hospital Street that is possibly the worst road in the area for travel and a major entry point to the city.
It can't be more than a quarter of a mile in length, but was left in terrible condition.
The other street that is in dire need of repair is Civic Center Drive coming into Mount Vernon Street. It's another major entry point with many businesses along its route.
I realize that cities have to make difficult choices today, but I think Augusta needs to take a new look at these roads and their problems and make an effort to get them fixed for its citizens, businesses and visitors.
