George Smith's column of July 1 regarding the Republican party in the Northeast contains at least two factual errors. First, it is not remotely true that there are no Republican members of the House of Representatives from the "entire northeast," unless one defines the "entire northeast" as being only the New England states. New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, all of which send multiple Republican representatives to Congress, might object to that definition. Second, even by such a restrictive definition, it is not true that there are only two U.S. senators from the region. In addition to our own Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, there is also Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., whom Smith evidently has overlooked.
