Why? It's easy to understand. In both countries, gay marriage was established in law without addressing the moral value of traditional versus same-sex marriage. If a child asks a teacher about relationships, he is told to ask his parents. Both governments have done well protecting the rights of parents, homosexuals and the church.
Here those opposing gay unions are vilified as haters, although they may support all other gay-rights legislation. The greatest intolerance is shown by those supporting the issue, who spew hateful epithets at those whose long-held beliefs they disagree with. They say they want acceptance but really want legislated approval.
Churches will be allowed to decide which unions they will bless, but, as we have seen with other issues, what parents believe is irrelevant. The children will be bombarded at school by whatever the teachers unions are supporting.
Maine courts have decided providing birth control to children without parental notification is OK; do you think parents will be allowed to "opt out" of this?
Ask anyone who is skeptical about global warming if their child's teacher has even mentioned that a large percentage of scientists disagree. You will find almost no students have been taught there might be another viewpoint.
If passed as written the views, and rights, of those disagreeing will be buried.
