Collins is an independent choice for U.S. Senate
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel 12/18/2007

The 2008 election comes at a critical time in the history of the United States and the world. I strongly endorse Susan Collins for U.S. Senate because I believe she is the candidate best able to address the profound challenges we face as a country. I trust her integrity and independent voice, moving outside the partisan politics of the current Congress.

Sen. Collins has always put the needs of her constituents first and remained outside the Beltway mentality of business as usual. She has continuously submitted legislation based on the need of our state and country, displaying unprecedented integrity.

Sen. Collins has consistently championed the improvement of the federal government, from reforming the intelligence community, founding of the Senate Diabetes Caucus and leading an inquiry into the government response to Hurricane Katrina.

By reelecting Collins, Maine can show its independent spirit to our country and the world, respect for individual differences, compassion for the underprivileged and strong resolute leadership.

Susie Collins, an independent? I don't think so.

When the chips are down, Collins has always backed the Bush Administration.

She has consistently enabled the invasion and occupation of Iraq, supported the erosion of our liberties with the UnPatriotic Act (and now, S. 1959), and refused to prohibit the torture of prisoners by the CIA.

Susie Collins is a disgrace who should be sent packing from Washington.report abuse

Rep. Cotta (R-China)~

In the future, pls. disclose any and all biases and political identity disclaimers in your so-called LTEs.

Collins is supposedly a Republican, but she has broken from the party NUMEROUS times and voted with Democrats (I don't know what jm is smoking.) While I don't entirely approve of everything she does, she's a million times better than Tom Allen.report abuse

Jack is dead-on, there have been many times Senator Collins has gone with what she felt was right and not with party opinion.

But hey, the spin-doctors from now until they close the polls will preach that the good Senator is just a puppet for our President.report abuse
