Christians
don't smear
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel Wednesday, August 01, 2007

Kennebec County Democratic party chairwoman Rita Moran is one heck of a woman. As a Maine pagan myself, I've been acquainted with her for years now and have always found her to be incredibly warm, intelligent and devoted to the service of others. The Maine Democratic Party is very lucky, and smart, to have placed her in a leadership role.

Michael Heath and the Christian Civic League do not share my opinion. Lately, Heath and his organization seem to be involved in a smear campaign against Moran and the Maine pagan community. Pagans have been featured more and more often on their hate-mongering Web site. It's more of the same vitriol and blatant misrepresentation that the League is so famous for spouting against the gay and lesbian community.

I was raised Baptist. I've read the Bible several times. I'm not sure Michael Heath has. He is one of the least Christ-like people I've ever had the good fortune not to meet face to face. From what I remember, Christ suffered so that others might live. He seems to live to make others suffer.

Historically, more people have been persecuted and murdered in the name of "religion" than for any other reason.report abuse

If you were raised a Baptist and have read the Bible several times as you state, then you will realize the significance of Luke 3:3.

To be forgiven, you must repent. Repentance has two sides - turning away from sins, and turning toward God. We cant just say we believeand then live any way we want(Luke 3:7-8), and neither can we simply live a morally correct life without reference to God, because that alone cannot bring forgiveness from sin.

Determine to rid your life of any sins God points out, and put your trust in him alone to save you from sins consequences.

Homosexuality is sin. Pagan worship is sin. You cannot continue to embrace these sins and expect to be forgiven! report abuse

500 or more religions and sects just from a difference in interpreting what it says in the Bible and yet people continue to quote from it as though it is the last word.

Better I think they put ALL of the religious books of the world in one huge pile and burn them all.

Religion, including paganism, has always been, and still is, the curse of mankind.

Why anybody thinks they need to read a book or go to a building to listen to a sermon in order to be a good person, I do not know.

It's time to believe in best science and to stop trying to explain what men's mental limits cannot possibly understand with mythical beliefs.

A belief that God created everything is an imbecilic explanation. I know not what a God is nor does anyone else and I find it novel that just a few years ago the religious believers of the day said there were 50 Gods.

Bill Randall of Winthrop, ME.... A curse is a result from a spell or prayer, imprecation or execration, or other imposition by magic or witchcraft, asking that a god, natural force, or spirit bring misfortune to someone.

Even in your admitted disbelief you belive in a higher power or God!report abuse
