Christians
don't smear
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel Wednesday, August 01, 2007

Kennebec County Democratic party chairwoman Rita Moran is one heck of a woman. As a Maine pagan myself, I've been acquainted with her for years now and have always found her to be incredibly warm, intelligent and devoted to the service of others. The Maine Democratic Party is very lucky, and smart, to have placed her in a leadership role.

Michael Heath and the Christian Civic League do not share my opinion. Lately, Heath and his organization seem to be involved in a smear campaign against Moran and the Maine pagan community. Pagans have been featured more and more often on their hate-mongering Web site. It's more of the same vitriol and blatant misrepresentation that the League is so famous for spouting against the gay and lesbian community.

I was raised Baptist. I've read the Bible several times. I'm not sure Michael Heath has. He is one of the least Christ-like people I've ever had the good fortune not to meet face to face. From what I remember, Christ suffered so that others might live. He seems to live to make others suffer.

Yes, RicknVA. King James did not like what the bible said and so in 1215 he ordered the rewriting of it to suit his beliefs. Of course, there had already been several versions of the Book of Babble before his time, and of course, there have been many since. When I see someone quote from the bible, I often wonder which one of the versions they are quoting from. I also wonder what Book of Babble Jim Jones of Jonestown used to cause 911 of his bible freaks to take the kool-aid-acid test. Michael Heath refuses to tell me which version he uses in his local "hate" programs. And in closing, I can't help but think back in history of the Spanish Inquisition and the Heathens who threw their most beautiful young maidens in pits of fire to appease the "Gods."report abuse

In all fairness, there is a difference in having faith and believing in 'The Bible'. The Bible is nothing more than a book written by man and re-written over the centuries to conform to whomever's beliefs. Obviously there are many people who believe that 'The Son of God' appeared, was born to a virgin, walked on water, arose from the dead etc etc etc . . .and I too believed that for many years having been brought up catholic.

I've since come to the realization that if there is a 'God' - and there is somethng . . .then there is ONE God - not the 'Son of God', the 'Mother of Jesus' and all else we've been led to believe. It doesn't compute . . .

I know . . .I'm gonna go to Hell now . . .report abuse

This observation re the very first two postings...

Jonathan Albrecht of Dixfield, ME, obviously doesn't believe in the Bible with a capital "B."

Nelson Donnell of West Gardiner, ME, must be aware that his "brilliant" patron saint George Carlin displays some of his brilliance in his book "Brain Droppings." The title says it all!report abuse

Bill Randall,
Your comments are great.
Paganism and Christianity are two sides of the same coin and competitors. The letter beautifully expresses the essence of fundamental Christianity (self-servinf hatred). I did not find the specific reference on the CCL website that Lara Dionne referred to, but the long list of lies, re-writing of history, the misrepresentations of fact, and mis-characterizations of interpretation are constant and difficult to miss.
My favorite is, of course, the David Barton campaign that we were founded as "A Christian Nation". Mr. Barton is a documented liar who had to withdraw his first book because he was caught manufacturing quotes from founding fathers (that's called fraud). But he continues on lying with the best of them. By the way he was or is a minister although he tries to hide the fact now.
I suggest that the bible, if you have one, has a much better use than reading it.report abuse

Hey Bill Randall of Winthrop, ME, glad to see that you are not allowing some power hungry sect to impose their Simon Says belief system upon you and that you are speaking out to them, although I'm certain you don't need approval from someone like me to be justified in doing so.

Perhaps you would seriously consider expanding your horizons by including in your library of pearls of wisdom the views and thoughts to the knowledge of other brilliant men like George Carlin:

fattubbo of Winthrop, ME...This is why Jesus says in Matthew 7:15 "Beware of false teachers who come disguised as harmless sheep, but are wolves and will tear you apart."

"We should take our responsibilty of building faith into the lives of our children seriously."

The Catholic priests will agree with that one! These guys were really "building faith" into their little altar boys, weren't they?report abuse
