In his letter, Greenwald takes exception to those who have expressed negative comments concerning this "excellent" business enterprise, stating, "They need to relax and realize this couple is making a living, paying their bills and not bothering anyone out there."
I am all for free enterprise; that's not my concern. What troubles me is the product being distributed by this business -- pornography. Why? Because it is "bothering" people "out there."
Greenwald is correct in stating that the pornography industry is "a booming multimillion-dollar business in high demand." However, since when does multimillion-dollar revenues justify the sale and distribution of a product that is a major contributing factor to violence against women and children?
The fact is, pornography is highly addictive and destructive material.
Research findings indicate that three to six percent of Americans are addicted to pornography, and excessive interest in pornography was found to be the major contributing factor to over one-half of divorces in 2002.
Pornography is also a significant factor in sexual violence. The FBI reported that 87 percent of child molesters were regular consumers of hardcore pornography. Ted Bundy, the serial killer from Florida, stated just before his execution that he was consumed by pornography at an early age, and those messages primed him for his murderous actions.
God bless America for our entrepreneurial spirit! God help us for using it to destroy countless lives.
