No children left
behind in Richmond
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel Friday, May 11, 2007

It is remarkable and heartwarming to note that Richmond High School was one of 36 schools in Maine to meet the requirements in the federal No Child Left Behind Act. There are some 51 Maine high schools, and some of Maine's biggest cities who did not make the standards for two to three to four consecutive years; others on monitor standards which haven't met standards for a year; and others that are in a small school category.

The town of Richmond ought to be proud of its teachers, its principal, superintendent and school board and of themselves for encouraging such a result, because no good education takes place without joint work between parent and teacher to enable our children to get a great education.

Richmond is doing well in this and in many other areas, and we need to take time out once in a while to recognize that citizens, the town government, the school system and others working together can do a wonderful job for our future.
