By contrast, Dennis Dechaine asked to have DNA evidence in his case tested even before his 1989 trial, but the AG's office opposed that testing. The AG's office also incinerated potential DNA evidence six days after Dechaine filed a motion for a new trial.
We have since learned that the donor of the only DNA evidence that survived from that case was a male who was not Dennis Dechaine. But the AG's Office has no intention of trying to find out the identity of that donor.
Now ain't that odd.

I read the book about this case and feel the state needs to either release the man or give him a new trial where all the evidence is presented.
Just fopund out this was one of the Innocence Projects first cases abnd they've shown 389 people have been wrongly convicted and DNA released them. But nooooooooooooo, not in maine?report abuse
When DNA tests were finally performed, the state officials said it was most likely dna from a pet she was exposed to, when it was found to be human they said it was surely the little baby she was babysitting's DNA. When further tests showed it was male the state decided they're lab was a mess and it must have been their fault.
I'm not even touching on the lies and deceptive conduct recently exposed by the investigators in this case.
I found most of my information by simply googling "Dennis Dechaine"
ITS TIME TO GIVE THIS MAN A FAIR TRIALreport abuse
The point is, both the state and Dechaine have manipulated the evidence, the system and public opinion for years....we may never know who's guilty of the crime for sure.report abuse
I have read Dennis Dechaine might have been capable of doing something like this. However i have read about hundreds of other child sex crimes in Maine by sex offenders that many times have a history of sex offenses that go back 3 decades including offenses by family members, so it seems there are many Dennis Dechaines in the state that could have done this horror crime.
My point is IF YOU CONSIDER FOR ONE MOMEMT Dennis Dechaine is innocent, then who is the guilty one? When you read how Maine state officials will not disclose DNA evidence or has destroyed it,when you read about other things Maine officials will not do,a second trial,etc.. and the many irregularities that have taken place with this crime case, I say the real killer of Sarah Cherry has enough clout in the state of Maine to influence the handling of this murder case, enough clout to stop DNA and other evidence from coming forward.
I say if Dennis Deschaine is innocent, the real killer is a high ranking, extremely influential Maine government Official including maybe a judicial member of the court -or the family member of one.
If you read the nonfiction book Brothers Bulgar, you will learn how one of the FBI's top ten most Wanted today,James Bulger was able to manipulate and put in fear an entire State government including controlling a local FBI office for 30 years to cover up his 'alleged' murders. He was able to do it according to the author of the book with the help of his brother who was the most powerful man in State government. I am not saying a gangster like James Bulger killed Sarah Cherry, but its been done before, the real killer could be manipulating state government for 18 yearsreport abuse
