If someone had told me 10 years ago when I was working on my tan in California that I'd be writing an endorsement for two lawyers here in Maine today, I would have turned over, sipped my Corona, and thought I'd been exposed to a bit too much sun, cerveza (beer), or both.

I'm oblivious to what's going on in California today, but I know well and feel passionately about what's going on in Maine. Last year, I wrote an ad promoting my advertising and design wares in the Kennebec Journal's Business Journal, and touted central Maine as "the promised land" stating that "our future is limited only to our vision, initiative and determination to make this area a wonderful place to live, grow and prosper. We in the Kennebec Valley are poised for great things at a glorious time." All right, I'm an optimist.

Today, we are presented with two glorious and optimistic choices. It's been my pleasure to work with Roger Katz, my friend, and Andy MacLean, my son-in-law, vying for mayoral posts in Augusta and Gardiner, respectively. I've consulted, designed signs, and created their ads. That's my business. But more importantly, I've come to realize and embrace how keenly effective both would be as mayors. That's my belief.

I highly endorse these exemplary young men (Katz's 57, I'm 58 -- but we're young at heart) and urge you to cast an optimistic and glorious vote for Katz and MacLean in November.
