need to assist taxpayers

In an article on April 26 titled, "Cony Road seen as residential," board member Richard Dunce stated that the board must do more to protect the city's future and worry less about the individual landowners. As a resident, landowner and taxpayer on the Cony Road, I was offended by Dunce's statement. It would seem to me that our city officials would worry more about individual taxpayers first, and then the future of the city. City officials do not make up the city. Residents and taxpayers do. Without them, the city has no future.

My hopes are that the city will disclose the impact the F. O'Connor site on Route 17 had on the Cony Road. For years and years, Central Maine Power was dumping transformers filled with oil containing PCBs which is known to cause cancer. Riggs Brook was contaminated with PCBs. The area is still being monitored and according to records, even after the site clean-up, PCBs are still present along the Cony Road.

I would hope that anyone concerned would ask city officials for all available data so that the right decisions can be made.
