READFIELD -- Dakota Duplissie's cracking shot from inside the penalty area hit the back of the net with 14 minutes, 43 seconds left in the second half. And it put a spark into the Mt. View High School boys soccer team.

The Mustangs scored the game-tying goal a little more than a minute later and went on to play two scoreless overtime periods in a 2-2 tie with Maranacook Community School on Monday afternoon. It was an appropriate ending to a game between two of the top teams in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference, which was tied in the second half for all but 1:22.

"With the circumstances what they were a tie is great because we get points from that," Mt. View coach Chris Hink said. "And the adversity, the boys had to come back twice, says a lot for our team because Maranacook is a very, very good team."

Monday's matchup featured two teams with just one loss between them. They had outscored their opponents by a combined 47-11 in 11 games before Monday.

Mt. View (5-0-1) has given up just nine goals, while Maranacook (5-1-1) has allowed six goals.

"It's kind of disappointing because we wanted to win the game, we needed the win," Duplissie said. "But we have Oak Hill (6-0-0) on Wednesday and we have to get ready for that."

Duplissie gave Maranacook its second lead of the game when he got the ball in the penalty area and took a shot that was blocked. He got the rebound and blasted a left footed shot by Mt. View goalie Nick Knight just more than 25 minutes into the second half.

Mt. View responded in a hurry, taking the ensuing kickoff into Maranacook's end and scoring with 13:21 left in regulation when Dylan Keller ripped in a shot from the top of the penalty area.

"It's was disappointing," Maranacook senior Sam Poulin said. "I think we kind of lost focus."

Poulin gave Maranacook a 1-0 lead on the back end of a pretty corner kick play. Maranacook's Tyler DeAngelis took the corner kick and made a cross to the far side of the goal, where David Clough headed it toward the near post. Poulin made a run toward the goal and headed the ball into the near side with less than eight minutes gone in the first half.

"It was a good ball to Dave and I was in the right place at the right time," Poulin said. "Dave is really good in the air so I knew if I was there, I had a good chance to score the goal."

Like it did later in the game, Mt. View battled back and eventually tied the game. Eike Dominiak made a long pass over the Maranacook defense to Justin Roberts-Pierel, who beat goalie Greg Goucher with a touch pass into the back of the net with 16:41 left.

"I was very proud of the boys because that adversity is huge, being away and tying 2-2," Hink said.

Mt. View lost Keller late in the second overtime period when he was given his second yellow card of the game.
