"It gives the kids a chance to see where they stack up against kids their own age," Maranacook coach Steve DeAngelis said.
Cape Elizabeth won the overall girls race with 60 points followed by Greely and Waynflete, tied with 58 points. Mt. Blue placed fifth and Maranacook sixth. Yarmouth won the boys race with 58 points followed by Mt. Blue (61) and Leavitt (72). Winthrop finished fifth and Maranacook eighth.
"It was very fast," DeAngelis said of course. "The winning boys time was in 12 minutes which is a very fast 5K."
Oxford Hills senior Spencer Eusden was the overall boys winner, finishing in 12 minutes, eight seconds. Livermore's Lauren Turner led the junior boys in 12:28 while Gould Academy's Peter Cowan was first among sophomores in 12:44. Maranacook's Tyler DeAngelis won the freshman race in 13:46. Waynflete junior Adele Espy posted the fastest girls time of the day at 13:34. Mt. Blue's Shelby Aseltine won the senior race in 14:47, while Cape Elizabeth's Emily Atwood took the sophomore race in 14:27 and Waynflete's Holly Whitney the freshman race in 14:38.
BOYS HOCKEY
GARDINER 10, HAMPDEN 0: Bass Chadwick and Zoe Fisk each had hat tricks to lead the Tigers to the Class B win at Kennebec Ice Arena. Mike Hersom scored two goals for Gardiner while Jake Sullivan and Klinton Peckham scored one each. Matt Albert and Jacob Ward combined for 29 saves for Hampden while Chris Howe made seven stops for Gardiner (6-2-2).
KENNEBUNK 7, MESSALONSKEE 2: Matt Tucceri and Patrick Graydon scored a pair of goals apiece to lead the Rams to the Class A win at Sukee Arena. Dylan Farrell, Colin Finn and Kevib Airoldi added goals for the winners. Matt DelGiudice and Ryan McCarthy scored for the Eagles. Mark Airoldi and Jordan Kadlik combined for 11 saves for Kennebunk (8-3-0) while Zach Parent made 30 stops for Messalonskee (5-6-0).
MARANACOOK-MONMOUTH 7, CAMDEN HILLS 4: Seven different players scored goals to lead Maranacook-Monmouth past Camden Hills at Kents Hill. Jared Bornstein, Kyle Martin and Cory Palmer each had a goal and an assist for the Black Bears, who improved to 6-5.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
KENTS HILL 49, SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 32: Jane Pavalkis scored 14 points and Britany Sharpe added 13 to lead Kents Hill (4-2). Laurel Leyden added eight points for the victors. Amberele Bennett scored 10 points to lead Seacoast Christian (5-4).
MEDOMAK 41, MARANACOOK 32: Jasmyn Rose scored 12 points to lead the Panthers (5-7) to the KVAC Class B win in Readfield. Kaley Ball led Maranacook (0-12) with 13 points while Brittany Myles added 10.
HALL-DALE 42, LIVERMORE FALLS 39: Brittany Ladner had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Livermore.
Amy Skillings added 13 points and six rebounds for Hall-Dale (6-5) while Britta Olsen had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Livermore Falls was led by Kendra Lyman and Esther Bizier with 10 points apiece.
BOYS BASKETBALL
MARANACOOK 77, MEDOMAK 43: Mike Poulin scored 21 points and Will Bardaglio added 14 to lead the Black Bears past the Panthers in KVAC Class B action in Waldoboro. Maranacook (12-0) took charge of the game with a 21-8 advantage in the second quarter. For Medomak (7-5) Alex McKenzie scored 12 points and Alex Goldrup 11.
BRUNSWICK 56, MESSALONSKEE 44: Tauren Easter scored 20 points to lead the Dragons past the Eagles in KVAC A play in Brunswick.
Dan Scully added 13 points for Brunswick (7-6). Orlando Holmes led Messalonskee (6-7) with 15 points.
