WATERVILLE -- Alison Cappelloni went over 900 career points with a game-high 21 points in leading unbeaten Colby College to a 77-39 women's basketball win over the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday. Cony graduate Rachael Mack added eight points and six rebounds for Colby (3-0). UMF (1-2) was led by Jillian Ross with eight points and Messalonskee graduate Ashley Busque with seven.
WPI 88, Thomas 57: The Engineers had four players score in double figures and two more with eight points apiece as they routed the Terriers in Worcester, Mass. WPI (2-2) led by 13 before outscoring Thomas, 19-5, over the last five-plus minutes of the first half to take a 51-24 lead into the locker room.
Caitlin O'Connor led WPI with 23 points. The top scorers for Thomas (0-4) were Kellie Martel with 16 points and Karin Bird with 15.
Men's basketball
Thomas 85, Tufts 71: Andrew Duncanson led Thomas with 25 points in a win in Medford, Mass. Francisco Alicea and Mt. Blue grad Isaiah Brathwaite each added 12 points. Dave Beyel led Tufts (0-3) with 18 points.
Colby 80, UMaine-Fort Kent 75: Michael Russell had 20 points and 20 rebounds as the Colby held on for a win in non-conference play. Adam Choice added 22 points for the Mules (2-0).
Manny Odugbela had 21 points and six rebounds to lead Maine-Fort Kent (3-3). Jeremy Thomas added 20 points.
Quinnipiac 59, Maine 46: Gardiner Area High School graduate Sean McNally had nine points and 10 rebounds in the Black Bears loss in Orono.
Troy Barnies added 11 points for Maine (2-3).
Justin Rutty had 14 points and six rebounds for Quinnipiac (3-1).
Women's hockey
USM 2, Colby 2: Kylie Blasen scored with 21 seconds left to give the visiting Huskies the win in Waterville.
Kaitlyn Conway scored with 6:23 remaining to give the Mules a 2-1 lead. Marissa Simmons added a goal for Colby (1-0-1). Loni Pisani made 25 saves.
Kailey Bubier also scored for USM (1-5-1). Molly Passerini also made 25 saves.
Boston University 1, Maine 1: The Terriers struck first when Jill Cardella scored her ninth goal of the season before Maine tied it in the second period on a goal by Dominique Goutsis as the teams skated to a tie at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.
Brittany Ott made 33 saves for the Black Bears (3-9-3, 1-5-3-1 Hockey East) while Melissa Haber stopped 26 shots for the Terriers (6-4-6, 4-3-1-2).
Men's hockey
Colby 3, USM 2: Billy Crinnion scored with 59 seconds left in regulation to lift the Mules over the Huskies at Alfond Rink.
Crinnion scored two goals to lead the Mules (1-2-0). Wil Hartigan also scored and Cody McKinney had 25 saves for Colby.
First-year forward Cory McGrath and Mike Doherty assisted on the game-winning goal.
Swimming
Women: Colby received a pair of individual wins from senior Danielle Carlson, sophomore Mandy Ferguson and freshman Kayleigh Monahan on its way to a 150-104 win over the University of New England in Biddeford.
Carlson finished first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, Ferguson in the 200- and 500-yard free and Monahan in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke to help even the Mules record at 1-1.
Freshman Kathryn Lee won the 100-yard butterfly while classmate Carly Rushford was first in the 1,650-yard free. Carlson, Lee and Monahan teamed with Laura Burns to give the Mules the win in the 200-yard medley relay.
