Oak Hill High School fall sports previews
Oak Hill boys soccer
Coach: Joe Fletcher (6th season)
Last season: 3-7-4 in Class B West
Top returners: G Travis Dyer (Sr.), MF Adam Soucy (Jr.), MF Zack Linette (Jr.), MF Ben Daggett (So.), F Brandon Cameron (Sr.), MF Isiah Mills (Sr.), D Joe Morneau (Sr.)
Key newcomers: MF Brian Soucy (Fr.), D Nate Ralston (So.)
Outlook: After bowing out in preliminary round playoff games the past two seasons, the Raiders appear ready to move up. There's good depth on the roster and four players who consider soccer a year-round sport. Newcomer Brian Soucy may be the team's most skilled payer and should make an impact right away. Brother Adam Soucy, along with Daggett and Ralston, gives Oak Hill a solid nucleus around which to build.
Coach's comment: "We truly believe that we can compete finally."
Oak Hill girls soccer
Coach: Cheryl Lambert (3rd year)
Last season: 3-10-1 in Class B West
Top returners: F Ariel Boulette (Sr.), D Marsha Gustin (Sr.), MF Maggie O'Connell (Sr.), F Amber Provost (Sr.), D Becca Roberts (Sr.), D Cadie Rodrigue (Sr.), D Sam Wark (Sr.)., MF Sarah Albert (Jr.), M D Kasey Anctil (Jr.), F Sam Rossignol (Jr.), D Courtney Safford (Jr.), F Becca Belaire (So.), F Abby Goulet (So.), G Maggie Sabine (So.).
Key newcomers: G Alex Donald (Sr.), MF Megan Hlister (Jr.), MF Tina Galarneau (Jr.), MF Ashley Jenny (Jr.), D Hannah Langlois (So.), F Marissa Caskin (Fr.), F Darby Beaulieu (Fr.)
Outlook: With a large group of returning players, the Raiders should be trouble for most of the teams in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference's Class B division. Goaltending and defense are the team's strength coming out of preseason while the offense will depend on some of the younger players.
Coach's comment: "Our eight starting seniors are leading the attack and we are primed and ready to take on the conference."
Field Hockey
Coach: Betsy Gilbert (4th season)
Last season: 5-9 in Western B
Top returners: M Kayla Clark (Sr.), M Kyra Bosse (Sr.), F Ariel Dalessandris (Jr.), B Tori Provencher (Jr.), M Becca Tucci (So.), B Lauren Hall (So.), UT Taylor Fillion (So.)
Key newcomers: F Ashley Paradis (Jr.), B Kayla Ridley (Jr.), M Sara Lacroix (Jr.), F Kayla Hodgkins (Jr.), G Becca Lehotey (So.), F Kimmy Soucy (Fr.), F Monica Grass (Fr.)
Outlook: The Raiders get better every year, and it would be almost impossible for them to improve any more without making the playoffs. The midfield, led by Clark and Tucci, is solid, and Gilbert is high on her new forwards. Gilbert said the key to making the playoffs this year will be Oak Hill playing hard each game.
Coach's comment: "Even though our team is young, they've all been playing through the middle school, through the youth hockey program, so I think you'll see a difference in the quality of our play this year."
Golf
Coach: Mike Pelletier (4th season)
Last season: 6-3
Home course: The Meadows
Top returners: Christian Langlois (Sr.), Vincent Gowell (Sr.), Nick Gayton (Sr.), Chris Robicheau (Sr.), Nate Jillson (Jr.), Robert Bradstreet (Jr.)
Key newcomers: Ashley Malloch (Sr.), Ben Leeman (Jr.), Joshua Martin (Fr.), Alexis Priest (Fr.), Alexandrea Shaw (Fr.)
Outlook: The Raiders are coming off their best season, and even with the loss of last year's top two players, they should contend for the KVAC playoffs and state meet. Robicheau and Jillson will vie for the team's top two spots.
Coach's comment: "We have a lot of experience. Most of the seniors have played in matches."

Football
Head coach: Bruce Nicholas (11th year)
Assistant coaches: Phil Prideaux (defensive coordinator), Dave Wing, Geoff Wright, Todd Charles
Last season: 3-6, lost in PTC B quarterfinals
Offense: QB Josh Sirois (Sr.), QB Brett Turcotte (Jr. ), FB Drew Janelle (Sr.), FB Kamar Banton (Sr.), WB Matt Averill (Sr.), HB Tony Vattaso (Sr.), HB Clyde Tibbetts (Sr.), SE Tyler Wells (Sr.), G Caleb Fournier (Sr.), SE Tim Blais (Sr.), SE Ben Rines (Sr.), G Corey Stubbs (Sr.), C Brandon Perry, WB Adam Hathorne (Sr.), T Ken Bergeron (Sr.), T Tyler Michaud (Sr.), TE Kyle Emmons (Jr.), TE Ben Foss (Jr.).
Defense: DE Fournier, DE Stubbs, ILB Janelle, ILB Emmons, DT Banton, OLB Hathorne, OLB Tibbetts, OLB Josh Allen (So.), CB Averill, DB Rines, S Foss, S Wells.
Outlook: The Raiders return 21 seniors and coach Nicholas says if there were ever a chance for a break through year, this would be it. Oak Hill, which will run the Wing-T offense again, welcomes the return of Rines, who didn't play last season. Rines plays basketball and baseball and Nicholas says he brings some speed to the offense.
Coach's comment: "With 21 seniors, I think we're ready to make a move here. The offense we ran was successful. It seems old-fashioned, but we had a lot of fun with it last year."
