Stocking reports will be posted on Web
AUGUSTA -- To keep anglers informed of what's going on at their favorite fishing holes, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Hatcheries Division is posting daily updates of its spring 2008 catchable fish stockings on its Web site.

SOUTH CHINA -- Twice they rallied from deficits, but the third time, the Erskine Acad-emy Eagles came up short. Just short.

FISHING REPORT: DIF&W starts its creel surveys on Rangeley Lake
The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife began conducting a creel survey at Rangeley Lake last week. The survey will continue into July, when the fishing activity begins to slow down.

BY HERB WILSON : Why do birds make their way north in the spring?
The marvelous spectacle of spring migration is here. Soon, the Black-billed Cuckoos, Blackpoll Warblers and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers will arrive in good numbers. The appearance of these late-arriving species signals the end of the spring migration.

BY KEN ALLEN : Fishing getting better and better
The Pleasant River in Windham normally rocks this month and next. Artificial-lures-only and strictly catch-and-release regulations as well as nearly weekly brown-trout and brook-trout stockings often guarantee action. Because of that, it's a great place to take a kid fishing.

OUTDOORS: Gift honors former Colby official Kopp
WATERVILLE -- Family, friends and colleagues gathered on the Colby College campus and remembered Thomas Kopp as a man who loved his family and his work enough that a gift of life was donated in his name to the Maine Warden Service Dive Team.

HOOPS TOURNEY VIDEO

Pressed for time? Watch two basketball games in about a minute. KJ photographer Joe Phelan set up a digital still camera to automatically make a frame every thirty seconds from the radio booths high above the Augusta Civic Center court. Over the course of the afternoon session it took almost 500 pictures. Then with the help of some computer software we compressed two boys games from the MPA Class C West bracket - Traip vs. Hall-Dale and Winthrop vs. Hyde - into a one minute, 12 second movie.
