WINDSOR -- Roy A. Rose, 64, of Weeks Mills Road passed away on Friday, May 21, 2004, at his home with his family.

He was born on May 28, 1939, in Portland, son of the late Edna (Tarbox) Rose.

He was educated in Providence, R.I., schools and served four years in the Navy. He worked at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 13 years and at the Veterans hospital at Togus for 27 years as a neurology technician.

He served on the Windsor School Board, Windsor Appeals Board and Windsor Planning Board. He was a member and past master of Dirigo Masonic Lodge 104. He served as state director of the Maine State Employees Association; was a member of the Eastern Star, Lily of the Valley Chapter; was a past member and past president of the Whitefield Lions Club; and was a member of the Augusta Elks Club.

Roy was always proud of the family military history. His direct ancestor, John Lovejoy, served as a colonial soldier and fought in the King Phillip's War, which preceded the Revolutionary War. Roy's son, Roy E., served his country during the Persian Gulf War.

Except for Bill Clinton's eight years in office, Roy was always proud to be an American.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, his rock of Gibraltar, always, Vada (Best) Rose of Windsor; a daughter, Crystal Perkins and her husband, Mark, of Skowhegan and their two delightful children, Dillon and Wyatt; a son, Roy E. Rose and his wife, Cheryl, of Randolph and their three wonderful children, Carly, Bobby and Jimmy; a sister, Elizabeth Rose of Cranston, R.I.; a cousin, Eleanor Patrick of Augusta; and a good friend who was like the brother he never had, Skip Gay of Windsor. His grandchildren were truly the lights of his life.

Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday at Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Road, Windsor, where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Tuesday morning.

Following cremation, burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Condolences may be expressed via the funeral home Web site, http://www.plummerfh.com.
