Two 16-year-old girls, and an 18-year-old boy were all taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non life-threatening injuries, Maine State Police Trooper Samuel Tlumac said.
The driver, a 16-year-old Manchester girl, sustained scrapes and bruises, Tlumac said, and was taken to the hospital by her mother.
She was charged with criminal speed, illegal transportation of liquor by a minor and operating beyond a license restriction that prohibits young drivers from carrying passengers during the first six months with a license, Tlumac said.
The girl also will be charged with driving to endanger, and may be charged with operating under the influence, pending the results of a blood alcohol test, Tlumac said.
None of the passengers is facing charges.
The crash occurred after 7 p.m. Saturday less than a mile from the Route 17 intersection as the teens were driving north on Route 135.
Tlumac said the driver admitted speeding.
"She actually stated she was doing 90 (mph)," Tlumac said. "The speed limit is 45 (mph)."
The driver lost control on a corner and her car veered into the opposite lane, Tlumac said. The car rolled over several times and struck an embankment, rocks and trees before coming to rest about 230 feet from where it left the road, Tlumac said.
"Seat belts saved lives that night," he said.
The 2004 Honda Civic was destroyed in the crash.
Traffic was restricted to one lane as emergency crews tended to the injured.
