Windsor studentflown from accident
WINDSOR -- A 16-year-old girl on her way home from Erskine Academy was hurt Monday when her vehicle crashed on Route 32 at Twenty Rod Road.
Kelsey Colby, of Windsor, was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after the accident, according to Trooper Jason Madore, who investigated the crash.
Colby's injuries were not believed to be life threatening, Madore said.
He said Colby was driving south on Route 32 when her vehicle veered off the paved portion of the road, hit the edge of a ditch head-on, went airborne, landed on the roof and flipped over.
"She was wearing a seat belt, which I think saved her from being ejected," Madore said.
Madore said there was no indication Colby tried to brake. "We believe the subject may have been on her cell phone due to the call log," Madore said.
He said Colby, who had an intermediate license, was driving a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass. He said there were no charges filed, but he was looking at the new law governing distracted drivers.
The crash was reported at 2:20 p.m. Monday.
