GARDINER -- The Farmingdale Historical Society will house its permanent collection in the Community Archives Room at the Gardiner Public Library.
The collection will be available to the public 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Society has two committees: the Archivists Committee, which will be transcribing documents given to the Society; and the Cemetery Committee, which will transcribe all headstones at the three Farmingdale cemeteries and take photos of the stones.
"This collection is a valuable part of our cultural heritage, and we are so excited to make space available so that all community members may use it to research our collective history," interim City Manager Anne Davis said.
According to a news release, the mission of the library's Community Archives Room is to preserve, protect and make available documents, diaries, photographs, historical items and reference materials pertinent to the history of the area.
