The Town Council on Tuesday approved a license for The Farmers Market on the Green, which will set up shop 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lawn and parking lot of the Winthrop Congregational Church UCC at Bowdoin and Main streets.
The market is organized by Monika Riney, of Wildermirth Farm, Winthrop.
Town Manager Cornell Knight said Riney told councilors another vendor may join her there and she has room for four or five other vendors.
Riney formerly participated in the Winthrop Farmers' Market, which sets up along the Union Street sidewalk near Main Street. That market also is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesdays in July and August.
Councilors also awarded a $114,400 contract to Wayne Excavators for the repaving of Highland Avenue and the sidewalk.
The work is being done in conjunction with a project of the Winthrop Utilities District. The contractor submitted the low bid of six.
Councilors also accepted an anonymous donation of a TTY hearing-impaired device to the Winthrop Dispatch Center.
They also ended the municipal-budget review after going through it page by page.
The changes mean the property-tax rate in Winthrop will remain the same for the upcoming year: $12.50 per $1,000 worth of valuation.
Councilors agreed to give the Western Kennebec Economic Development Alliance $7,933, the full amount it requested, rather than Knight's recommendation of $2,500.
They also dropped the town's $465 membership in the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce.
