As ice and snow storms that pummeled the Midwest migrate east, Mainers traveling for the holidays should be vigilant on the roads.
The National Weather Service is projecting snow and subzero wind chills throughout the weekend.
Snow showers are expected this morning and early afternoon.
The snow is expected to stop by tonight, and temperatures will plunge into the teens with a wind chill factor of 2 below zero.
More snow is expected Sunday afternoon into the evening and could get "heavy at times," according to the National Weather Service.
For drivers, the weekend might get slick.
Before hitting the streets, AAA encourages drivers to turn off cruise control on wet and icy roads, check tires for proper inflation and never drive fatigued. For more winter driving tips, visit www.aaa.com.
