The driver, Linda Crossland, 38, of Belgrade, and three passengers, Chelsea Crossland, 16, of Belgrade, Shelby Petersen, 16, of Oakland, and Patrick Dionne, 11, of Belgrade, all received medical attention at the scene for what were believed to be minor injuries, said Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance of the Maine State Police.
The crash occurred a little after noon as Crossland was driving south on West Road. Crossland lost control of her 2002 Mitsubishi Montero about a half mile from the intersection of Route 135, Perkins-Vance said. Her sport utility vehicle rolled over into a utility pole, snapping the pole in half, and came to rest on its roof in the middle of West Road, Perkins-Vance said.
The impact crushed a large section of the Montero's roof, but injuries were relatively minor, likely due to the small stature of the young passengers.
"If there were adults in there, I'm not sure (the injuries would have been minor)," Perkins-Vance said.
All of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Parts of the road were wet; ice had formed in spots after it had snowed the previous evening, Perkins-Vance said.
A couple of hours later, on Route 27 in Sidney, Perkins-Vance responded to four vehicles that left the road within a 30-minute time frame. One of the vehicles cut a pole in half, another rolled over two others left the road.
No injuries were reported.
"As I was at one, I saw another vehicle come down the road and roll over," Perkins-Vance said. "Everyone was secure in seat belts, which is good."
