Michael A. Grimaldi, 19, and Robert J. Cooper, 18, both of Augusta, admitted breaking into motor vehicles the night of July 30 along Grove and Green streets.
Both pleaded guilty in Kennebec County Superior Court to seven counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, and one count each of burglary and criminal mischief.
Grimaldi pleaded guilty to additional charges of aggravated criminal mischief -- related to kicking at and bending the frame of a police cruiser window -- as well as criminal mischief and theft. He was sentenced to four years in jail, with all but six months suspended and two years of probation.
Cooper was sentenced to two years in jail, with all but six months suspended, and two years' probation.
The two were ordered to pay up to $970 in restitution to individuals whose vehicles were damaged and whose items were taken. In addition, Grimaldi was ordered to pay up to $2,500 for repairs to the cruiser.
