Wayne C. Stevens, 57, was arrested Friday and charged with stalking, Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett said in a release on Tuesday.
Detective Sgt. Kenneth Hatch discovered during a lengthy investigation that Stevens had continuously harassed and stalked a 20-year-old woman, Brackett said. Stevens allegedly stalked the woman, who was a former co-worker, over a period of several years.
Stevens has been employed as a school teacher for more than 20 years in various communities around Maine, Brackett said.
A spokesman from the sheriff's department could not be reached for further comment. Police did not say where the alleged stalking took place or specify where Stevens had taught.
Stevens was booked at Two Bridges Regional Jail, from which he has since been released on $5,000 cash bail pending his court appearance.
