AUGUSTA -- The Planning Board meets tonight to hold public hearings on proposals for a new office building on Town and Country Road, more parking at St. Augustine Church, an addition onto a Riverside Drive apartment building, and a proposed change to the city's sign ordinance.
Mary S. Davidson submitted a preliminary application to build a three-story, 8,000-square-foot office building, with 24,200 square feet of associated parking and other paved areas, on a 22-acre lot on Town and Country Road.
Town and Country Road is off Capitol Street. The proposed site is adjacent to Kennedy Brook, in two zones: business and professional and low-density residential, according to city documents.
The site, according to application materials, is currently grass and woodlands, with 12,000 square feet used as a gravel storage area.
Tonight's meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the lecture hall at Augusta City Center.
Planners are also scheduled to hold public hearings and consider proposals including:
* An application from the Roman Catholic Bishop of Portland to utilize the footprint of the former St. Augustine Church rectory building and garages on Northern Avenue to provide 4,700 square feet of additional parking. The property is in the city's high-density residential district.
The rectory and garages were torn down in December 2007.
* Proposed changes to the city's sign ordinance, forwarded to the Planning Board by the City Council in response to a request from officials of Le Club Calumet for a larger sign at the club.
* A presentation from city staff regarding the city's new sand and salt shed to be built on public works department property.
* A conditional use application from John McNaughton to build a 1,300-square-foot, single-story wood frame addition onto a Riverside Drive apartment building.
The addition would accommodate a new heating system and laundry room. The building is in the planned development district.
