The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate an accident that killed a Whitefield man Tuesday afternoon.
Harold Kennedy, 62, was driving north on McFarland Shore Road in New Harbor just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when he crossed into the opposite lane and left the roadway, hitting several trees and a rock.
Kennedy, who was driving a flatbed lumber delivery truck, according to the sheriff's office, died at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
No one else was involved in the accident, according to the sheriff's office.
Sgt. Jason Nein, a crash reconstruction specialist in the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, said Kennedy was employed by Poole Brothers Lumber.
A man who answered the phone at Poole Brothers Lumber in Damariscotta confirmed Kennedy was an employee, but said his manager was declining comment Wednesday afternoon.
Nein said an autopsy to determine Kennedy's exact cause of death could be completed Wednesday afternoon.
He said he believed Kennedy had a pre-existing medical condition.
"We have a lot of indication that Mr. Kennedy had a cardiac event," Nein said. "Now whether or not that caused the accident, or the accident caused it, determines if this was a fatal vehicle accident or an unattended death."
