At a districtwide meeting Monday, residents from Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield and Wayne passed a $10 million budget proposed for Maranacook Community School District 10.
The next day, Wayne voters approved a $732,898 budget for the Wayne Elementary School.
Brigette Williams, finance manager for CSD 10, said Wayne residents will receive two ballots on Tuesday to fill out for the school referendum.
"One will be for the CSD and one for the elementary school," Williams said.
The polls will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ladd Recreation Center.
Wayne Town Manager Pam Grimshaw said absentee ballots are available at the Town Office.
"The intent of having these meetings this week was to allow for the requirement of a referendum," Grimshaw said Friday. "The school consolidation law has a requirement that school budgets be approved through a referendum voting process."
She said the elementary school budget went up quite a bit, but the high school and middle school budgets saw huge reductions.
"And that's a positive, as far as the local share for Wayne taxpayers," she said.
Williams said CSD 10 officials did a great deal of work to reduce their budgets. She said they cut over $371,000 from the district budget this year.
"Wayne's such a small community and it has such high valuation it usually has difficult times with local funds," Williams said. "With Maranacook down $371,000, consequently the local dollars for the town went down."
She said the town's share of the cost to operate the high school and middle school amounted to $894,816, a reduction of $24,253.
"On the elementary side, they have to raise $622,644 and that is an increase of $32,435," she said. "But if you take that increase and subtract out the decrease at Maranacook, it means, for all the schools, Wayne only has to raise an additional $8,182."
Municipal elections in Wayne will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 10, while the annual town meeting to vote on the municipal budget is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 11. Both votes will occur at Ladd Recreation Center.
