Current athletic director Dan Bowers announced in December he was resigning, effective at the end of the school year.
Longtime basketball coach and teacher Paul Vachon in the nominee to take the job, according to Superintendent Cornelia Brown.
His nomination goes to the Board of Education for a vote Wednesday, at a meeting beginning at 7 p.m. at Capital Area Technical Center.
The open portion of the meeting is scheduled to be preceded by a closed-door session at 6:30 p.m., for a personnel matter.
In the public session beginning at 7 p.m., board members are also scheduled to: Receive letters from Commissioner of Education Susan Gendron regarding Augusta's plan to comply with state school reorganization law and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges regarding Cony High School's accreditation status; consider appointing members to a joint audit committee; consider staff nominations, resignations, and retirements; consider student and staff travel requests and; consider transferring $10,000 from contingency and $30,000 from building repair and maintenance budget lines for planned Capital Area Technical Center lobby renovations.
