The program will also feature a guided photography tour of nearby Vaughan Woods 8-10:15 a.m., said Tim True, one of three instructors for the woods tour.
"We're hoping to do some instruction on taking good nature photos with long exposures for the water effect and things like that," True said.
"It's a very nice place to take pictures. In addition to the stream and bridge at the meadow we're hoping to get some mushrooms or fauna along the way and develop our eye for nature pictures."
The nature tour will be geared for all levels and provide opportunities for beginner to expert photographers, he said. The location for the workshop was selected specifically to be close to Vaughan Woods and offer the nature photography instruction.
"You can talk about it all you want, if you haven't done it you don't know," True said.
The nature tour will be conducted only in the morning, but other workshops are scheduled in the morning and afternoon so participants can attend a variety of instruction.
"The first time we did this was last fall and we had 70-80 people attend," said club spokesman Eugene Maxim said. "We're hoping for even more this time."
The workshops are scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Maxim said his club has been growing lately with what seems to be an upturn in interest in photography.
"I'm not sure if that's because of renewed energy in the club and the programs we've developed or because more people are interested in photography because of digital technology," he said.
He said he will be teaching a course for beginner photographers.
"We'll be talking about film versus digital photography, the pros and cons of each and looking at cameras as tools and what tool you need to get the results you're looking for," Maxim said.
To sign up for the event a registration form can be obtained online at www.capitalareacameraclub.org or by calling Cindy at 897-5818. The cost is $30 for those who pre-register by May 24 and $40 for those who register after that date.
"If we get their registration in hand by May 24th, those people will also get a light lunch," Maxim said.
The club meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell, he added.
