Wednesday's China school budget meeting may be earlier; residents should check schedule with town office
Staff reports Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel 04/29/2008

CHINA -- Wednesday's joint meeting of the budget and school committees and selectmen may be rescheduled for 6 p.m. instead of the previously-announced 7 p.m. Selectmen Monday evening asked Town Manager Daniel L'Heureux to see if the other committees could meet an hour earlier, in order to accommodate a selectman's schedule. Residents planning to attend the discussion of the 2008-09 school budget request should call the town office Wednesday afternoon to find out what time the meeting will start. The meeting will be in the town office, either the meeting room or the conference room for a final review of the 2008-09 school budget request. Although the total budget for next year is lower than this year's, the local contribution is expected to be higher, because state and federal funds have been cut. Participants in Wednesday's meeting are also scheduled to set a date in late May or early June for the special town meeting required to approve the school budget. The figure agreed on at the town meeting will then be submitted to a written-ballot validation referendum that selectmen intend to hold on June 10, with statewide voting.
