The program also includes a series of workshops aimed at young school-age artists, most of which charge a separate fee, said Deborah Fahy, executive director of the Kennebec Valley Art Association.
"In celebration of Youth Art Month, the Kennebec Valley Art Association will once again host a month-long exhibit of children's art in the professional setting of the Harlow Gallery," Fahy said.
"Art teachers from each participating school submitted art for the exhibition from among their students' best work. The opening reception on Friday, March 2, is free and open to the public. Families with children and art teachers are especially welcome."
The "Young at Art" program has been underwritten for the third year with a grant from the Oak Grove School Foundation, Fahy said.
The exhibit of students' work will be on display March 2-22 at the Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St., Hallowell.
Workshops associated with the program include the following:
n Paper making, March 1, 10-noon, ages 5 and up, cost $15;
n Clay animal masks, March 2, 1-3 p.m., ages 8-12, cost $20;
n Community mural painting, March 8, 11 a.m-4 p.m., ages 12 and up, cost is free;
n Bead making, March 9, 1-3 p.m., ages 10 and up, cost $20;
n Drawing comics characters, March 15, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., ages 8-12, cost $15;
n Creating comics characters, March 15, 1-3 p.m. ages 13 and up, cost $20;
n Warm and fuzzy monsters, March 16, noon-1 p.m., ages 5-8, cost $15;
n Fashion drawing, March 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m., ages 12 and up, cost $20;
n Silk Screen print-making, March 22, 10 a.m.-noon, ages 11-16, cost $20;
n Pastel painting: landscapes and skyscapes, March 22, 12:30-2 p.m., ages 11-16, cost $15;
n Collage Card Funanza, March 29, 10 a.m.-noon, ages 9-14, cost $20;
n Puppet-making: a firebird and a fairytale, March 29, 1-2:30 p.m., ages 6-10, cost $20;
n Design your own cup and bowl, March 30, 1-2:30 p.m., ages 5 and up, cost $25;
n Design your own cup and bowl, March 30, 3-4:30 p.m., ages 5 and up, cost $25.
