He was wearing a helmet at the time, according to Frank Guerrero, director of marketing at Sugarloaf.
According to The Associated Press, there was an unrelated accident on a chair lift at about the same time as Davis' accident. A chair on the same lift became loose and slammed into another chair. No skiers were hurt but the ski patrol did have to evacuate everyone on the lift on Sugarloaf's Spillway, the AP reported.
"The broken chair had nothing to do with (the injury)," Guerrero said.
The lift remained closed on Sunday.
The Carrabassett Valley Police Department confirmed Sunday that one of its officers responded to the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol Clinic following the accident. Two ambulances reported to the mountain before noon. The victim was on board the helicopter by 11:58 a.m., according to dispatches.
