The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Firlotte Lane. Game Warden Daniel Murray said Kevin Lindman was operating the ATV and Lane Burnham, 11, also from Leeds, was a passenger on the back. Both were taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
"They both had broken bones," Murray said. "The young fellow had a broken arm and they were thinking (Lindman) might have had broken shoulder and pelvic injuries."
Murray said they were going down the camp road at 20 miles an hour. The road crowned causing the vehicle to veer off to the left where it hit a patch of ice and rolled over.
"They had an under-inflated front tire, which I think attributed to the accident," he said. "And they had no helmets."
He said Lindman was driving a 700 cc Suzuki four-wheeler that was heavily damaged.
"I know another warden in Livermore Falls that covered three accidents today between snowmobiles and ATVs," he said. "You have to make sure you wear helmets and that your machines are in mechanical order as far as tire pressure and brakes. Things like that."
Murray said Winthrop police officers and fire and rescue were at the scene.
