CORRECTION:
This story in Tuesday's print and online editions of the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel inaccurately reported a statement by Sen. Olympia Snowe’s spokesperson, Jake Ward.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has not met with Snowe to discuss support for his potential presidential campaign. Snowe is co-chair of Sen. John McCain's presidential exploratory committee.

Snowe, Collins to co-chair McCain exploratory group
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel Tuesday, January 30, 2007

PORTLAND -- U.S. Sen. John McCain's presidential exploratory committee announced Monday that U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins have been named to serve as co-chairwomen for McCain's presidential exploratory committee in Maine.

It's clearly a "McCain for President" endorsement from both women, their spokesmen confirmed.

Snowe, in a statement, said McCain, has a proven track record to address the nation's challenges.

The Arizona Republican is considered one of the front-runners for the 2008 GOP nomination

Jake Ward, spokesman for Snowe, acknowledged that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, another presidential hopeful, had recently spent a lot of time at Snowe's office.

Kevin Kelly, a Collins spokesman, said she was part of McCain's "kitchen cabinet" before McCain, an Arizona Republican, decided to consider a presidential bid.

Collins said McCain's experience on both domestic and foreign policy issues is "unparalleled."

"I can think of no better person to lead our nation than John McCain," Collins said.

State Rep. Joshua Tardy of Newport, the House Republican leader, will serve as vice chairman of the committee.

Thank you Ms. Collins. Thank you for supporting the chief architect and cheerleader of this troop surge, Mr. John (Maverick when it counts) McCain. You really don't want to win in 2008 do you? Fine by me, Tom Allen would be a much better Senator than you.report abuse

WE DONT NEED A CONTINUEATION OF THIS BUSH LAP DOG. AND THESE TWO SENATORS WOULD BE BETTER SERVED IN HELPING THE PEOPLE OF MAINE AS OPPOSED TO A ENQUIRERY OF A MAN WHO DOESNT HAVE A CHANCE IN HELL OF BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT AFTER WHAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED AS A COUNTRY IN THE LAST SIX PLUS YEARS OF THIS CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.report abuse
