SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy has announced the Class of 2008 Top Ten seniors.
• Valedictorian is Margaret Kruithoff, daughter of Wayne and Catherine Kruithoff of Winslow. Throughout her four years at Erskine, she has received numerous academic awards including Outstanding Achievement in French, Integrated Science, Geometry, Biology, English, Algebra II, US History, and Health. She has been awarded the 2008 Maine Principals Association Principals Award, a Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, a Certificate of Success for the National French Exam, and she has earned multiple community service certificates. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Tennis Team, and she has participated in a variety of educational and volunteer opportunities outside the Erskine community as well. She plans to attend Colby College to pursue environmental studies.
•Salutatorian is Stephanie-Ann LaRose, daughter of Fran LaRose of Palermo. She has been involved in such activities as AFS, the EA Theater Club, the Varsity Math Team, and National Honor Society. In addition, she has served as the varsity soccer manager and she has been a class officer for four years. She has received Perfect Attendance and community service certificates, multiple Certificates of Merit for the National Latin Exam, and she was a declared a Finalist in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. She has also received awards for achievement in Algebra, Latin, Geometry, English, and Spanish. She plans to attend Colby College to study psychology.
• Third in academic standing is Ashley Oliver, daughter of Alton and Pat Oliver of South China. She plans to attend Colby College as a biology major.
• Fourth in academic standing is Anna Niedbala, daughter of Richard and Anette Niedbala of Palermo. She plans to attend Dartmouth College.
• Fifth in academic standing is Erika Hawksley, daughter of Thomas Hawksley of Windsor and Sandra Hawksley of Augusta. She plans to major in engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
• Sixth in academic standing is Matthew Howard, son of Murray and Clarissa Howard of Whitefield. He plans to attend the University of Maine in the chemical engineering program.
• Seventh in academic standing is Laura Lenfest, daughter of Peter and Darlene Lenfest of Windsor. She plans to major in meteorology at Lyndon State College.
• Eighth in academic standing is Zachary Newman, son of Stephen and Roxanne Newman of South China. He plans to attend the University of Maine in the biology program.
• Ninth in academic standing is Amber Ferland, daughter of Curt and Emelie Ferland of Vassalboro. She plans to major in Civil Engineering at Norwich University.
• Tenth in academic standing is Samuel Helm, son of Jonathan and Anne Helm of Palermo. He plans to attend Colby College in the biology program.
