AUGUSTA, Maine — Ryan Henderson of Erskine Academy in South China is one of seven Maine high school juniors named semifinalists in the Maine Community College System’s Journey Into Writing Contest.
On May 16rd three of them will earn the honor of being named one of Maine’s three “Young Writers of the Year” and receive a generous cash prize.
The MCCS Journey Into Writing contest is a statewide writing contest for high school juniors. The semifinalists’ entries were chosen from more than 218 entries from 65 high schools throughout Maine.
Award winning Maine authors Richard Russo, Linda Greenlaw, and Wesley McNair are the contest judges. They are expected to join Gov. John E. Baldacci and sponsors of the contest at a luncheon ceremony to announce the three winners on Friday, May 16, at Maple Hill Farm Inn and Conference Center in Hallowell beginning at 11 a.m.
At the event, all seven semifinalists will receive $250 and a plaque. The three winners of the contest will receive a total of $2,500.
