Cloning Einstein (www.cloningeinstein.com) is made up of Jeff James Beck (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Dougherty (bass), Joe Black (guitars, vocals), Colin Diemer (drums) and Tom Schied (vocals). This is an Adult Contemporary band with a piano-lead sound and a smooth vocal style that pop/rocks softly (think an updated Air Supply -- but in a good way).
Close backing harmonies really grabbed my attention and Beck's lead is silky and warm, bright and polished with several tracks really standing out, like the incredible "Here I Am" (my absolute favorite original song of the 11 present on this strong debut).
The band's first single -- "I Believe" -- hit AC stations everywhere on Jan. 14. You may have already heard the band and not even know it.
All told, I'm rather surprised that this CD caught and held my attention, but I guess it just goes to show that good music is timeless.
