If the ostensible purpose of the school reorganization law was to eliminate some central office costs (like superintendents' salaries), why did it not just say that?

The law relied almost solely on the number of students in a school system as the criterion for an acceptable consolidation plan. 200 students or 2,000 - there was no requirement that the central office staff be made smaller or paid less. So many weren't.

The law needs to be repealed. If consolidation of school systems really is a good and needed idea for Maine schools and students, then let's figure out a way to do it that's not detrimental to the very institutions it's trying to save.report abuse

I appreciate Mr. Greenlaw's continued use of facts to argue for the repeal of the school consolidation law especially in light of the Baldacci gang's attempts to discredit Greenlaw and to argue for maintaining a law that likely doesn't affect many of them personally.

I recommend that folks take some time to educate themselves about the scope of the law - which towns are and are not affected by the law. The web sites cited in the article are a good place to start.report abuse
