The purpose of the tax reform law is to promote the kind of economic growth that will create high-paying jobs with good career opportunities. However it's not a perfect tax law, since few are, and it will probably require some modifications. Also it’s not the only state tax law change that’s needed to enable faster economic growth in Maine.

For example, many voters seem to wonder why out-of-state employers only bring low-paying “call center” jobs to Maine - instead of higher-paying manufacturing and financial jobs, etc. That’s probably because a couple of years ago the legislature enacted a so-called “unitary” state corporate tax that has likely been a major drag on the state’s economic growth. However it’s too late to repeal that “unitary” corporate tax, and the current Maine GOP leadership may even support it.report abuse

The petitions are now out & about to collect signatures for this important People's Veto. If we look at the big picture for LD 1495, it's going to cause a significant increase in the amount of taxes we have to pay. Let you voice be heard, and help us Veto LD 1495!
