I'm still waiting for some smart entrepreneur to open a kayak and canoe rental business in Waterville/Winslow and for guides to start taking folks down the Kennebec from Waterville to either Sidney or Augusta to enjoy the river and to watch the eagles and other wildlife. It's a veritable bald eagle highway. When are the ecotourism businesses going to come and start developing the river's ecotourism potential?report abuse

When Edwards was removed I too believed that it would take many years for the river to revialitize. So glad to have been wrong. The river and its assets belong to us all and I believe the City of Augusta was fairly compensated. When the City of Waterville took our Head of Falls property I wish we had received such a sweet deal instead of the screwing we took.

Keith did a great job on this article.

Keep up these types of stories, much better to read than the usual.report abuse

Chromedome , I will say it. What the State has done to China Lake with their constant high water levels is the all time enviromental scandal.

Fish elevators work poorly. When are they going to learn that. With effective safe up and down stream
fish ladders on all the dams the fish will come back by the billions. It will provide thousands of tax paying jobs, bring inexpensive good healthy protein to Maine people, and generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually in Maine. Why is this liberal democratic administration so against helping the Maine economy and regular Maine people.report abuse

That proves that dams don't hurt wildlife, they come back rather quickly. Now build a decent hydro dam project for clean renewable energy. It would benefit many more people than a couple of fish. The river and it's banks are not exactly lined with recreation seekers.report abuse
