Remember all those great Lawrence High track teams? KVC and State champs for how many years in a row, 10 or so? From which came an Olympic team distance runner? The teams led by head coach Dave Martin?

That's right.

During those days, Lawrence had no track. And the home meets were run on a cow path around the baseball/football fields. Practices for distance runners were on the roads.

Cony didn't have much of a track back then either but they had some pretty good teams. All of which Lawrence beat.

It's not the track that makes the champion. It's the athletes on the team.

btw - kudos to the decision-makers who are only spending 112 to fix the problems. Down here, one public school is spending something along the lines of 800k. Maybe the lanes on that track will be lined in gold.report abuse
