Common Cents: Well its an old home in a historic district... not really any design changes allowed on the exterior, but it has good exposure, and will serve well with the solar thermal. What would you suggest anyway?report abuse

Sustainable...but is the house DESIGNED to maximize solar or is a 'bolt on' attachment?

I haven't found an architect or builder whose designs fully reflect maximized solar siting.report abuse

The Hallowell home in the article will have solar thermal. For a more detailed account of what is being done to that home go to http://www.savemaineenergy.com and click the "current projects" icon.
I agree with hawkeye on his post regarding the 1000 to 1500 gals of fuel oil/home. A quick search online shows an average of 630 gallons of oil/home in Maine. George Callas, of Build Green Maine should either support those numbers or recant them.report abuse
