The statement below Matt is one which I'd like to comment on from your article/great article by the way per usual.

"A $1.5 million cut to the community colleges' state allocation -- at a time when their enrollment is growing -- will reduce the system's capacity by 450 students, Fitzsimmons said. The funding cut would force the system to reduce parts of seven academic programs and eliminate 20 faculty, staff and administrative positions."

My belief is that for community colleges in Maine the $1.5 million and the 450 students should not be cut and c. c. funding should be increased either by the state by cutting the University of Maine (at Orono and the system) and/or from Obama's Stimulus funding. Remember his speech last night stated that if a student gives public service they get a free education. Don Beattie in Winthrop, ME.report abuse

We can not afford to cut any more programs or staff from the university system!! If we continue on this path we all will loose much more in the long run our State needs young people that are educated! If not surely we are doomed to being a retirement state ! Maybe the Governor can take a second look at this,Id rather see cuts to other things, anything ,but higher Education !!!! I know I will get alot of flack for this but if we do not spend on education we will spend it on WELFARE !!!report abuse
