I would like to thank Mr. Harlow for his article
and to Jan Brown for the work she is doing.

I, too, work with men and women who are living in chaos because of emotional abuse when divorce or separation occurs. It's an unnecessary evil and an injustice to an abused parent for the courts to allow court orders to be ignored and falsehoods told about the targeted parent to go unchecked. This is usually done in child custody disputes.

If Guardian's Ad Litem had some training in the mental health field and understood what was happening, much of this pain would be alleviated. When a child suddenly turns against a parent for no good reason, a child case worker needs to find out why. Reading the book by the American Bar Association should be read by all child protective workers called: "Children Held Hostage, Dealing with Programmed and Brainwashed Children". The book gives a clear incite to what happens to families in divorce.
The courts have failed the family.

Thanks so much for your kind words of appreciation. Mr. Harlow did a nice job on this article and I would like to thank him also for bringing the issue to the public's attention. From what I am reading it sounds like people are starting to witness that there are a lot of gray areas when it comes to domestic violence victims and perpetrators and that changes need to be made within our current system.
Although my agency specializes in working with men in relationships with abusive women we are here for any victim and do the best we can with our limited resources.
I started a petition to gauge the public's views on domestic violence victims services at the Care 2 site. If you believe as we do that domestic violence victim's services should be open and available to all those in need would you please consider signing our petition:

FYI, there are at least two of what I would call model domestic violence victims shelter programs in this country that house both male and female victims in their shelter and offer a myriad of other services to them...so I know it can be done!
Sincerely, Jan Brown at www.dahmw.orgreport abuse

This is an amazing article about Jan and about the Helpline.
I feel very fortunate to be an advocate for DAHMW.
We recognize that men can be abuse victims as well and we do everything within our power to help those in need and to reach out. I'm happy that this issue is finally starting to get the attention that it deserves!report abuse
