I am on the road for about a 100K miles a year. At least once a day someone cuts me off and at least once a week, someone intentionally tailgates me to the point of dangerousness. I do the speed limit and pay attention to greasy roads and other hazzards. I have called in drivers who are messing around in ways that could result in major accidents. The last time I called in was for a car full of people who were shutting down two lanes by not allowing others to pass and they did this for 20 miles at 40 - 50 mph. This caused bumper to bumper traffic. A state police officer witnessed the block and did nothing even though it was called in. Just how are you going to enforce a law, that even if the police witness the breaking of it, do nothing? Sounds like some more Nanny State mentality going on. Perhaps the fear of having someone flip out is more of a detriment than going to court 6 months later and being given a fine. Just a thought.report abuse

If someone is tailgaiting you, your driving to slow. Speed up!

We all have to share the road you know.

They give anyone a lisence; old, blind, stupid, people with common sense of a garden tool. Put your stupid cell phone down and move along you slow pokes.report abuse

The thing to do is keep your speed steady, don't speed up or slow down or hit the brakes....just drive! Stop letting these jerks get to you. To imply that I, or anyone, can influence or proliferate the behavior of bad drivers is giving far too much credit! Thanks for the support, but I don't think I'm that all powerful when behind the wheel! LOLreport abuse

This is one of the stupid bills. I was tailgated once and was very happy when a Hallowell cop pulled them over. I was going the speed limit. Something is wrong when a law encourages you to speed just to get someone off you tail. Sounds like an oxymoron. Speed and get a ticket, follow the speed limit and loose your license because some doesn't know how to back off. That is what we need. Electonic signs that you can push a button that says "BACK OFF". That should not be considered offensive and they would get the message day or night. The lawmakers would call it a distraction and we would still get a ticket or loose our license. Hello.... Call your legislators and tell them to back off. Like others have said before, there are more important things to deal with. Our law makers don't get enough $ from the law breakers that they now have to go after those who are responsible. Don't hit my car. I can't afford it.report abuse
