Thank you Bikemedic, as I agree with your last post 100%. While the group of lazy and wasteful state employees seems to be about 10% of their workforce, these stauch union supporters deserve to be fired but their spineless managers/directors are either afraid or unwilling to go up against the union. By the way, yes, I have had close ties with our state government for many years.report abuse

Not to duplicate what I already posted on the Morning Sentinel site - I think that No2 has made several good points that are worth further exploration.

And UncleWalt, if No2 is a state employee, I think he should stay. To be sure there are those who don't deserve the job they have, but there are also others who really do care about doing a good job and prove that daily.

We just need more of the latter and less of the former. Seems like most of the ones who are Friends of The Gov are among the least qualified and get the most benefits - and also seem to be immune to any cuts.

"They" would willingly cut 3 hard working entry level employees to keep one Deputy Something or Special Assistant Something who doesn't deserve and is minimally qualified for whatever position is on their gold embossed business card.

It's depressing, and pathetic.

If only any of this banter would make a difference....report abuse

If Governor Baldacci started Shaving his head, I think his approval rating would go up.report abuse

Gee whiz! No2Socialism has so much inside info about state workers who arrive late, leave early, surf the web at work, make too many personal phone calls at work, take overly long lunch breaks and sleep on the job that you have to wonder. Is it possible - no it can't be true, and yet it seems so obvious now - is it possible that No2Socialism actually is a dastardly, good for nothing state employee himself? And if so, should he be laid off too?report abuse
