Canned and dry goods are another good thing to stockpile with the candles and firewood. Our freezer is full too, not so good in a summertime power outage, but this time of year not so much of a problem. I make jerky with marked down beef, and do a lot of canning of our garden veggies. I pick up pantry items on sale at the grocery store and keep the cupboards fully loaded, just in case. I rotate the stock and have great dinner ingredients at my fingertips, to boot! Sure we have some prepared foods, but we have plenty of healthy stuff: rice, pasta, canned veggies, canned tuna and chicken. Just don't add salt!

Our new wood stove hasn't bothered my asthma - the smoke all goes right up the chimney. It is the best feeling in the world to know that if the power goes out, the pipes won't freeze, we will be comfy and able to cook, and the houseplants and tropical fish won't perish. :)report abuse
