Marriage is for a man and a woman. You carpet munchies and sillymites need to get your own type of union. Keep your gross stuff in your own yard, not ours. The Penis goes in the Vagina. DAA!report abuse

SnakeNCrane, your idea about Maine being the 'oldest' state is true but not accurate. Age is a relative term. In Maine about 140 thousand people are over 70. That's about 11%. So they are not the majority even though our average age in Maine is older than in other states, it's still hovering around 40.

Your understanding that main stream churches do not offer same sex commitment ceremonies is off the mark as well. They majority of religions, not including fundamentalists, are in support of same sex marriage. I have friends who were 'married' in a Methodist church over a decade ago. This bill is supported by a coalition of religious organizations from all across Maine. The religious groups that are opposed are the Catholic church and fundamentalist sects, not main stream. I know this as I'm an active member of the religious community in Maine.

So, sadly, Snake, you are facing an uphill and losing battle. Sadly for you, lucky for the rest of Maine.report abuse

There are about 400 different references in the state of maine tax code and about 1000 in the federal tax code which relate to "marriage". That is why the term "marriage" not civil union needs to be used in defining gay relationships ---this equates to equal treatment.report abuse
