Mainers -- even staunch Democrats -- probably should celebrate the re-election of Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss....

Sorry, Maidene62, but I have to disagree. This is exactly the wrong time to have a senator like Collins, or Snowe for that matter, in Washington. What the country needs is a loyal opposition which will put Obama in his place when he starts trying to put his big government, Socialist agenda into place.

These two have proven over the years that they are more likely to vote with the Democrats than to provide an alternative. I don't hold out much hope.report abuse

As usual a whole load of tripe from Mr. Offer but I would like to say something about McCain choosing the "moose murderer", who says the NY Times is biased, over Snowe.

McCain was trying to win an election and he needed conservative votes. He was not going to get them on his own. He needed to choose a VP candidate who could bring in the South and the conservatives.

Got news for Mr. Offer, choosing a Rino from Maine wouldn't do that ! Why vote for a ticket of two Democrat wannabes when the electorate could vote for the real thing in Barry and Biden ?report abuse

Susan Collins is the right person at the right time in DC. She cares about what Maine people want and think, and she has done more for this state than any other politician in a very long time. She has fought for BIW, tried her best to keep BNAS open, and kept Portsmouth Shipyard going. I haven't had any dealings with Olympia Snowe, but have watched her quietly work for Maine all of her years in Wash, DC. Both ladies are fine Senators and have our interests at heart.report abuse
